Fading Horizons - A science fiction role-playing game set in a future Age of Catastrophe.

I've been playing tabletop RPGs off and on for 30+ years. In that time, I've made several attempts to design my own game. Most didn't get far beyond an initial "alpha" version and were eventually forgotten.

A few years ago, I started playing Traveller, a generic science-fiction game that started in the 1970s. Fun  game, generic enough that you can set your own campaign world into it, just making a few modifications here and there. It's a great game with a number of concepts that I really l like, but a few things that I wanted to modify or remove. And, I wanted to add some very unique, custom material to it. Started working on doing that.

But, after a month or two, it seems like the system just wouldn't hold together for what I had in mind. I felt like I would have been making too many changes to the core rules of the game itself. Not sure how that would have worked out. So...why not just start from scratch, make my own. But this time, really do it. Go all the way from writing actual explanations of how the rules work, to creating the game the way I wanted it to be. The way, if I was a player, that I'd want to play the game. And as a GM, a way that I would want to run the game.

In November of 2012, I started working on the basic rule-set of the game. Starting collecting small, low-budget pieces of artwork that I would have basic rights to add into a document to be published. Starting designing my own art. Experimenting with dice, statistics, finding better ways to do things.

The game has gone through several revisions and so many ideas have come and gone. Hours and hours and hours going back and forth with ideas, seeing how they work, testing them, tweaking them, then sometimes just abandoning that part entirely. I know what kind of game world it is and what it contains. But the way it works, the dice that are used, the math behind it all. Continually evolving.

It's now come to the point where play testing needs to take place. Let's see what happens..
